The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
