The Princess of Wales's Traditional Festive Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will listen to a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Compassion and Love

The central message of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
